Getting Linux Special Effects (GNOME)

NOTE: Because I'm using Ubuntu 9.04 I'm gonna show you how I did it in Jaunty Jackalope, but maybe you can do it the same way I did, or find a similar way, but if you use GNOME it should be the same way.

The Start To Extra Visual Effects:
Right click your desktop, and click on Visual Effects, and click on Extra. You should now install the graphics driver or something like that, and restart your pc.

Getting The Special Effects:
Well click on Applications, and go to Add/Remove...

Now type in the search box "Compiz"

Once you've done that check "Advanced Desktop Effects Settings (ccsm)". You can also check "Compiz Fusion Icon", but it's not recommended for this tutorial, as were not going to use that.

Once you've restarted your computer, right click on your desktop, and click on "Change Desktop Background".
Click on the "Visual Effects" tab, and select "Normal", or "Extra".

You'll haft to install the NVidia graphics driver, and restart your computer again, or select keep settings, if that pops up.

Now go to System-Preferences-CompizConfig Settings Manager.

Getting The Virtual Rotating Desktop Cube:
Go to Desktop, and uncheck Desktop Wall, and check Desktop Cube & Rotate Cube. You can go ahead, and adjust the settings to what you want.

Well now you're probably wondering why you don't have a cube, just 2 windows.

In order to fix that go to General, and General Options.

Click the Desktop Size tab, and make Horizontal Virtual Size be 4 instead of 2.

Enable Window Effects:
Go to Effects, and click animations add-on, and then click on Animations click on whatever animation you wish to edit. I'll do the minimize one.

Click on the one you wish to edit and then click edit (or right click, and then edit)

Now change your minimize effect to w/e you want. I chose Beam Up.

You can add a new window match, edit the duration, and so on, but I left it at what it's at.

Now you can go ahead and mess around with more of the special effects.
