First off right click on an existing panel, and click on New Panel. (If you don't have any panels then this won't work, and you're out of luck, sorry)
Make sure it's positioned at the bottom, if not right click the new panel, and click on the orientation dropdown menu, and select bottom.
Right click the panel, and click on Add to Panel...
Now add the applets that were originally on your Linux distro.
For example, because I'm using Ubuntu 9.04, I'm gonna just assume you're using it as well.
So now were gonna add the following applets below.
Show Desktop
Window List
Workspace Switcher
Trash
Now move each applet to where it's positioned in the screenshot below.
If you don't know how to move them right click one applet and click on move, now position it as seen in the screenshot, and click to have it stop, and stay.
Once you've moved each applet I want you to lock each one now, by right clicking it, and clicking on "Lock To Panel".
