Making Your Own Linux (GNOME) Theme |
|
Well I personally like to start out with a theme I downloaded, and edit it to what I want it to look like, by giving it a whole entire new look.
Go here to learn how to install themes, icons, and cursors on Linux.
If you already know how then head to GNOME-LOOK.ORG to install a theme.
Once you've downloaded, and installed your theme you can edit it by going to your Home folder, and hit CTRL+H which will show all the hidden files in there, and now head down to the .themes folder, and open up the theme you've downloaded, and you should see 1 or 2 folders gtk-2.0 and/or metacity-1. Now just edit the images in thoughs folders, and save each one, and you should see your new theme.
If you don't see the gtk-2.0 or metacity-1 folders, then extract them from the file you've downloaded, and edit them that way, and install them.
I recommend using GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) to edit/make your images, and I personally think that it's the best free alternative to PhotoShop out there today, and I have PhotoShop on my Windows PC, and it can do almost the exact same things.
