Make Linux Look Like Mac OS X Leopard (GNOME) |
|
Final Result:
NOTE: Because I'm using Ubuntu 9.04, I'm gonna show you how I did it on my distro, and maybe you can find a similar or maybe be able to make linux look like a mac the same way I did. So first off go ahead, and get an apple leopard wallpaper as seen below. You can search Google for bigger images for your dimensions.
To change your wallpaper right click your desktop, and clock on "Change Desktop Background" once there click on the background tab if not already there, and add the leopard wallpaper on there.
Next go ahead, and get the mac like dock for linux.
Now download this file so you can get the icons, cursors, and theme to make linux look like a mac. (Size: 14.1 MB)
Now right click your desktop, and click on "Change Desktop Background". Once your there click the Theme tab if not already there, and click and drag the file you've downloaded above into that window, and it should say it has been downloaded correctly, and all you gotta do now is enable it, and you're done.
If you wish to edit, or change the apple logo to something else (image that replaced your Ubuntu, Debian, etc: icon) then go to your home folder, and hit CTRL+H to show your hidden folders, and head over to /.icons/Apple_Icons/scalable/places now look for start-here.png and edit/replace it in GIMP, or w/e image editor you choose.
Next just unlock the icons from your panel, and move them as seen in the photo below. The reason for this is that's where each item is places on an actual leopard pc. (top right, not top left)
Hide Titlebar:
Just head to System/Preferences/Windows and for the Titlebar Action change it from Maximize to Roll Up.
I tested this on Linux Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope, I'm pretty positive this will work for the other GNOME based linux distributions.
Get The Finderbar:
As far as the finderbar is concerned you'll need to get globalmenu, and go to the installation part to learn how to install it.
NOTICE: If you want to change the login, bootscreen, splash screen etc: etc: then go here.
Final Result:
