FOR KDE DISTROS: (by amoebios)
On KDE there's KRandRTray, which puts an icon into your systray from where you can change resolution and rotate or mirror your screen.

NOTE: Location may vary on different distributions (Mine Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala)

Also NOTE: If you get a message that says, "It appears that your graphics driver does not support the necessary extensions to use this tool. Do you want to use your graphics driver vendor's tool instead?" Just hit No.
