Now first off lets look into how you got this error in the first place.
The Common Case:
You see Vista doesn't associate compressed zip files to a program such as WinZip, 7Zip, WinRAR, etc: etc: it actually associates compressed zip files to a Shell Funtionality. So when you install an archiving package like 7zip for example, and then uninstall it. Vista doesn't put back the original OS shell association.
The Fix:
Now before we talk about fixing it completely let me remind you that you can always open the compressed zip file in explorer.exe (C:\Windows\explorer.exe)
Now if you'd like to repair it completely from a .reg file simply head here. Save the page as zipfix_vista.reg
Now let me remind you all to be very careful with registry files. Yes they can improve your computer, but they can also make it so you'll haft to reinstall the whole OS again.
Anywho run the zipfix_vista.reg you'll need admin access and you'll also get that window that always pops up while installing registry files. Simply click Yes.
Now refresh explorer.exe, logout and log back in, or just restart your computer, and then it should be back the way it was before.
